AN OVERNIGHT TRIP TO TO CHICHESTER ON A RIBEYE A811
Earlier this year one of our owners took their Ribeye A811 for a weekend break to Chichester, below is their write-up of the trip.
Ribeye A811, Chichester mini break.
We jumped in the car Saturday morning and came down to Saxon Wharf. Got the guys to launch the boat on the forklift and headed off towards the Solent Forts. We then lined up a course to West Pole (the last channel marker out of Chichester Harbour), before making our approach into the harbour itself.
We then found a quiet spot to anchor just up the Thorney Channel, before heading over to Chichester Marina. Probably worth noting you need to be a bit careful with tides/depths to do this – particularly as we were on springs this weekend. Called the lock gate, and arranged a lock-in, before berthing up for the evening.
On Saturday evening, we stayed in the Premier Inn in Chichester and went for a meal in a great curry house. Would highly recommend Masala City!
On Sunday we met up with a friend who lives in Chichester (Lou, pictured helming), and did the trip in reverse. This time, we stopped at Cowes for lunch overlooking the Solent, before heading back up the Southampton Water – calling in at Hythe marina on the way to fill the tank before finally heading up the River Itchen to drop the boat off.
A great weekend to get afloat and an interesting journey to undertake.
Skipper’s Tips
Anyone who is planning to do this trip – clearly will need to check the weather as crossing the Chichester bar can be ‘interesting’ in heavier seas. Similarly, they should check their intended route as not everyone will be aware of the submarine barrier or wind farm not far from it…
